16-21 Toyota Tacoma NOVA-Series LED Headlights

The following installation guide we take you through the installation of your new ALPHAREX HEADLIGHTS for your 16-21 Toyota Tacoma step by step.

NOTE:Some vehicle require the DRL harness installed for the headlight to function properly.

PART I - REMOVE HEADLIGHTS

Step 1: DISCONNECTING THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

Whenever working on your vehicle always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal.

Step 2: FRONT GRILLE REMOVAL

Remove the 2x10mm and 2 plastic retainers.

Pull the grille toward the front of the vehicle to remove.

Step 3: PLASTIC RETAINERS REMOVAL

Remove the 6 plastic retainers.

Step 4: REMOVE BUMPER SCREWS

Remove the 10mm screws ( red arrow ) and the plastic clips ( green arrow ) by turning it 90 degree. Do that to both side of the front bumper.

Step 5: GAIN ACCESS TO HEADLIGHT BOLTS

If your Tacoma is equipped with fender flares, un-clip the flares from behind and remove the front part of the flares, remove the upper half of the bumper from the mounting place to gain access to the 10mm bolts at the bottom side of the headlights.

Step 6: REMOVE HEADLIGHTS

Remove the 3 X 10mm bolts from each headlight and remove the headlights from the truck.

Please follow the same procedure for the other headlight.

PART II - INSTALL HEADLIGHTS

Step 7: INSTALL ALPHAREX NOVA SERIES LED PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS

Connect the low beam ( green ) , high beam ( yellow ) and side marker connectors. For the DRL harness instruction , please follow the instruction on Part 2.

Step 8: DRL HARNESS / CONVERTER INSTALLATION

For SR/SR5 Model with factory amber DRL

Whenever working on your vehicle always start by disconnecting the negative battery terminal.

Connect the red wire with ring to the battery positive, the black wire with ring to the battery negative. Connect the supply SR5 converter to the turn signal connector and red wire to the brown pigtail from the headlight. The second red wire will connect to the wire from the DRL harness. For the yellow wire from the DRL harness, it connect to the driver side yellow plug on the turn signal socket, passenger side yellow plug will be leave unplug.

Step 9: TAP THE FUSE

Tap the grey wire into the INJ fuse with the supplied fuse holder.

For TRD model with halogen low beam and LED DRL

You can wire up the TRD model with or without the DRL harness. With the DRL harness installed, the difference is you will also have the activation light feature with the key fob.

1) Using the TRD converter without DRL harness, it will be plug and play, the yellow/black converter connects to the turn signal socket from the headlight. The single red wire converter will connect to the brown wire pigtail from the headlight.

2) Using the TRD converter with DRL harness, this will require cutting and reconnecting wires. Connect the Red wire with ring to the battery positive, the black wire with ring to the battery negative. the yellow wire from the DRL harness, it connect to the driver side yellow plug on the turn signal socket, passenger side yellow plug will be leave unplug. Cut the fuse tap off the grey wire and connect that to the driver side TRD converter with the single red wire, connect the converter to the driver side connection, and leave the passenger side unplug, connect the two red wire to the headlight brown pigtail, one for each headlight.

For TRD model with full LED headlights

You can wire up the TRD model with or without the DRL harness. With the DRL harness installed, the difference is you will also have the activation light feature with the key fob.

1) Using the TRD full LED converter without the DRL hareness, it will be all plug and play for all wires.

2) Using the TRD full LED converter with DRL harness, this will requrie cutting and reconnecting wires. Connect the Red wire with ring to the battery positive, the black wire with ring to the battery negative. the yellow wire from the DRL harness, it connect to the driver side yellow plug on the turn signal socket, passenger side yellow plug will be leave unplug . Cut the fuse tap off the grey wire and connect that to the driver side TRD full LED converter’s brown wire, connect the two red wire to the headlight brown pigtail, one for each headlight.
